Why do I call myself "Just Plain Jane"?
My name is "Jane" but my real name is "Jannie". Pronouced jane ee. When I was growing up, I would have a lot of people confuse my name because of the spelling. I'd get "Jamie", "Janine", "Jeannie", or even prouncing it jan ee . It got very fustrating having to correct everybody, all of the time!
It wasn't until after I was married that I thought I should make it simple. I should be "Jane". Nothing complicated, just plain "Jane".
That is the honest truth, but also, when I was in college studying interior design, we would visit home shows. At one, there was a booth with the name "Just Plain Karen." I was very attracted to the name and I thought that if I would ever have my own interior design business, that was what I would name it: Just Plain Jane Design. And the name has stuck with me ever since.
