Shipshewana Quilt Festival

I had mentioned in a past post that I was wanting to enter a few quilt competitions this year. I few weeks ago, I had entered one of my quilts into the Shipshewana Quilt Show. Once I mailed the entry, it seemed like forever to get a reply back, whether a "yes" or "no." Well, I did finally receive a acceptance letter back!!

The Shipshewana Quilt Festival (ShipshewanaQuiltFest.com), in Shipshewana, Indiana, is from June 23-26, 2010. It is a juried show, so I was thrilled to be allowed to have my quilt there. Eleanor Burn will be their featured speaker this year and tons of workshops will be available. Shipshewana is in northern Indiana and I am in southern Indiana, so I will not be attending the show - too far of a drive, especially with two kids. So I hope some of you will be able to attend and enjoy the festivities and please let me know if you had seen my quilt!!

When It Rains...

I haven't been around but let me explain. Been very busy.

It was two weeks ago that my son brought home a paper stating that he had to complete a science project. Since this was his very first one, I knew that he was going to have to have some help with it. With baseball practices and/or games for both of my boys (seemed to be daily), we would have to do a little bit everyday.

During that first week, it was my father-in-law's 70th birthday. We had set up a surprise birthday visit from his daughter (who he doesn't see often) and I had made several batches of brownies, his favorite dessert (2 days of baking).

Then, the dryer goes out. It will run, but no heat. Not wanting to go to the laundry mat, I have been going over to the father-in-law's house to do some laundry and I've been trying to do some at home. I'm able to use the washing machine and so purchased a folding wooden drying rack to air dry the clothes - which takes forever! So, the laundry has been a long on-going process.

The Science project was due on Monday (he got a perfect score, by the way!!!), so I thought that I could quickly finish the tote bags for the swap. I had a few days before the deadline. I had to put them on hold because of the science project. Yet, wouldn't you know, another obstacle. One of my good friend's mother had been sick for a very long time and passed away this Tuesday.

So, the last two days, I've tried diligently to finish the two tote bags for Brye. I did get them finished. I'm happy to say that they are now on their way to her house via the postal service.

Gosh, I hope things lay off for a while. This weekend is suppose to be beautiful and I hope to relax a little bit. The boys will be out of school in about a week (summer vacation) so I better take advantage of the last few days before they drive me bunkers daily here at home!

Happy Mother's Day

I wanted to wish everyone in blogland a wonderful Mother's Day.

And I wanted to give out some thankful wishes for two special women in my life:

First is my mommy, Song Chong Ok, also known as Kim when we moved the the United States. I had lost her when I was a young girl, but in our short time together, she had taught me so much, particularly sewing which has become a huge part of my life. Although she is with me daily, I wish she was here, physically, to meet her two gorgeous grandbabies, and to teach them more about their Asian heritage.

Next, is my stepmom, Judy Padgett. I didn't like her at first, when she had come into our lives after my mother's death, but she had proven herself as a beloved mother with a huge heart. She has taken care of the family when we needed her. And most importantly, she has taken care and loved my daddy. I knew he is very happy.

Thank you both for all you have done for me and I love you both dearly. Happy Mother's Day.

15 Years Ago

The first part of this post was suppose to be up yesterday because my computer was acting up-

It was 15 years ago that my wonderful dear husband and I decided to hop on a plane and fly to Las Vegas to get married! 15 years sure does fly when you are spending it with your best friend. I would do it all over again. I have always loved you and I always will.

Now, back to today. My younger son had a special "Mother's Day Tea Party" at his school today for all the mommies. They served finger sandwiches with iced tea (and lemonade for the little ones) and a yummy Mother's Day cake! We played play game for some prizes and the kids sang a song to end the "party." The kids had made a "pot of love" for each of their mommies filled with chocolate. How did they know that was what mommies loved?!


And about quilts- I've been working on my Yoyoville quilt.

There are 21 rows of yoyo/4 patch strips in the body of this quilt. I have 17 of them done already.

I've even started the applique houses that are in the border.

I'm trying to get more quilts done so I can get them into some small completions later this year. I know that I still have that Dresden plate quilt that all it needs is to be quilted. I'm planning on finishing it for completion as well. I haven't completed in anything over a year and I think it's about time I get back into them. I'll let you all know when once it becomes time.

What's Next? Tote Bag Swap

I'm having still having some problems with Blogger, the site that hosts my blog. It's being temperamental and won't let me enter new posts from time to time. I'm still having my computer savvy father-in-law helping to figure out what's going wrong. So, if you don't hear from me for a while, you'll know why.

This will be a quick entry, just wanted to post what I was currently working on.

I'm participating in Brye Lynn's, from sewstitchcreate.com, Tote Bag Swap. Here's the idea that I have. The end result may be slightly different from the stetch, who really knows just how it will turn out. I had fallen in love with Fig Trees' fabric line Buttercream & Figs. But since it's an older line, I'm having a problem locating fabric. I started collecting it about 4 years ago and I still haven't enough to make a full size quilt. So I thought making tote bags will be a good project. I'm planning on making 2 bags and one for myself. In sending 2 into the swap, I'll receive 2 back! I've got about two weeks to work on them, so I better get started!

I have a free day tomorrow. Once the kids are at school, I'll have some quiet time to work on some quilts. And if the blog is in a better mood, I'll try to get some photos up.
